Plains is currently seeking an ambitious, hard-working individual to join the Data Integrity/Data Warehousing team within the Information Services group. This individual will have a background in database administration, and must provide timely investigative response to database-related issues.
The Database Administrator (DBA) is responsible for assisting in planning, maintenance, security and integrity of corporate data. The DBA monitors and helps maintain all production and non-production databases while maintaining security levels for all business applications in use at Plains. This role will also assist development staff with support of database services and help administer ERP system services.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure the consistency, reliability, security, and accessibility of data;
- Manage system security for all business applications in use at Plains;
- Perform regular backups, restoration, maintenance and consistency checks of all databases, and data imports/exports;
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems in response to alerts from monitoring tools or tickets submitted to the Service Desk;
- Install and configure DBMS software in accordance with vendor recommendations and/or SOP’s;
- Perform maintenance, including installation of patches and upgrades as required to keep systems operational;
- Conduct quality assurance testing to validate installation against design specifications;
- Monitor systems availability, performance, capacity, and/or security;
- Maintain system documentation to reflect current configuration status;
- Work projects through to completion while keeping project team members and IS management informed of issues and overall status;
- Manage multiple priorities in a timely manner;
- Communicate status to IS support staff, and IS management before, during, and after the installation or problem resolution activities as appropriate and in accordance with SOPs;
- Work directly with users to determine root cause analysis of performance and data integrity issues;
- Make suggestions as necessary to enhance and improve the user experience and system performance.
Qualifications:
- University degree or equivalent in computer sciences with focus on database administration;
- Solid understanding of RDBMS system and architecture which includes MS SQL Server 2005 & 2008;
- Knowledge of Oracle is not a must but would be considered an asset;
- Previous experience in database performance tuning and optimization;
- Knowledge in database server specification, performance tuning and analysis;
- Demonstrated ability to solve database administration issues;
- Ability to work with database developers and engineers to analyze database performance and identify solutions;
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
